The smallest Rotary club in District 7870 at 12 members announces the winners of its Randy Daniels and Don Miner Memorial  Scholarships.

The Rotary Club of the Capital City Sunrise has had a scholarship program in effect since the early 1990s. The first naming of a scholarship was to recognize Randolph W. Daniels, a Capital City Rotarian who was  an active supporter of his club and the Boys and Girls Club of Concord. Each year the Daniels family and dedicated volunteers run the Randy Daniels Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for both organizations as well as the Make-a-Wish Foundation.

The Don Miner Memorial Scholarship was named to pay tribute to the Capital City Rotary founder, spark plug and most ardent supporter.

The scholarships are competitive and available to students in the capital city area who balance their studies with exemplary community service in keeping with the Rotary motto "Service above Self". The award is for a thousand dollars each and, unlike most scholarships is granted directly to the student in August after their tuition has been paid.  The money can be used for books and/or other startup expenses.

Scholarships are available to those students attending 2 or 4 year colleges or vocational institutions. Applications are available from area high school guidance councilors. For the past number of years there have been five scholarship award recipients.

This year's winners of the Randy Daniels Memorial Scholarship are: Andrew K. Phinney, Bow High School;  Kelsey Martin, Concord High School; Randilyn Driver, Pembroke High School. The Don Miner Memorial Scholarship Winners are: Jennifer Lamontagne, Pembroke High School; and Alysha McGrath, Pembroke High School.

Our congratulations to all the winners and all who took the time to apply to our scholarship program. We are all winners
