Capital City's 2007 Holiday Activties

This year the little club that does.. .did - and in a big way.
November and December saw a flurry of activity from the 13 member strong Capital City Sunrise Rotary Club.
Starting with a very successful 25 years of Service Celebration on November 7th with both the District and State Governors in attendance as well as the County Sheriff, the Daniels family, visiting Aussies and Don Miner's significant other.
Next was the Christmas parade the Saturday before Thanksgiving. The club served 150 Cups of hot chocolate to the appreciative marchers. The Friday after Thanksgiving is the traditional lighting of the State Tree on the State House Plaza. The club was there with the help of some Girls, Inc. volunteers again serving free hot chocolate to the onlookers. President Jack estimates the crew served 400-500 cups. Unsolicited donations amounted to $235 - $100 of which was given to the Salvation Army when the club rang the bell in Front of the Ft Eddy Market Basket - raising $600 much needed funds for the Army in one day. Girls, Inc. also received a Christmas time donation from the Club.
That day, December 1st, our fruitmaster extraordinare, Dick Johnson was presiding over the Club's fruit sale distribution at Duncraft, who very kindly provided warehouse and retail distribution space for the fruit distribution. A big tip of the cap to Mike Dunn and his crew for being such willing hosts. Throughout this day, members shuttled back and forth between ringing the bell at Market Basket and distributing fruit at Duncraft. Early returns on the fruit sale point to somewhere around $4,000 profit.
As is the practice of the Club, fruit donations were made to the following organizations: McKenna House, Suncook congregational Church, the United Church in Penacook, The Salvation Army, and of course, The Merrimack County Nursing Home.
Wednesday, December 12 saw the club serve a ham dinner to over 50 residents of the Crutchfield Apartments on Pitman Street. Every one got a gift as well as a terrific meal. Surplus food after the event was donated to the Friendly Kitchen. A note from the Crutchfield following the event thanked the Club and said the residents were really touched as generally the holidays pass them by with nary a nod.
The Club Christmas party was scheduled for Thursday evening, the 20th at Cityside Grille - Judy Flowers had decorations and presents for the kids all ready, but at 5 PM - an hour before the event - the restaurant called and canceled. Ah, well - what's a little snow.
The last meeting of the year was held on the 27th as a business meeting in which the future offers of the Club were named.
All this and time enough for family and friends - not bad for the little Club that does.
