Local Clubs Participated in "Fun Fest"

This past Saturday, September 20, 2008, 9 local Rotary Clubs from the the Greater Concord, New Hampshire and the MCNH activity staff worked together at the 286 bed Merrimack County Nursing Home to provide the residents a fun day.
The day dawned with the sun shining - as it has on all of previous 14 Fun Fest Saturdays. The temperatures were chilly and the group of patients that viewed the outdoor concert of the Moulton Band were provided blankets to ward off the chill. The approximately 25 young, talented musicians provided a spirited and uplifting concert covering old and new standards and patriotic tunes. The group from Sanbornton claims to be the oldest continously performing band and since they started performing in 1889, perhaps they are.
The Rotarians and local Interact members transported some of the Residents outdoor band concert. Others provided assistance in getting the residents to the various recreation rooms where a number events took place. Singer Norman Johnson led one group in a sing-along. Keyboardist Bill Parker performed on another floor, and the Concord High School Jazz band underwritten by the Concord Rotary Club held sway at still another location.
During the past fourteen years the project has always been a highly rewarding experience for residents, Rotarians and Interactors alike. This year was no different for the thirty-one Rotary volunteers who gave up their Saturday morning for the event.
Funfest was started by the late Capital City Rotarian, Don Miner as a way to provide the MCNH residents a day of fun and entertainment and it has continued as a lasting tribute to him and to the residents and staff.
Thanks go to the clubs who made monitary contributions to fund the entertainment, and with a special tip of the hat to the Henniker Rotary Club for their generous donation.
