Capital City Announces Five Scholarships

The times are changing and the need for scholarship aid is greater than ever. This year the smallest Rotary club in the district has given five $1,000 scholarships in the Concord area.
Twenty-two candidates applied for the three Randy Daniels and two Don Miner Memorial Scholarships. Capital City is unusual in that it awards its grants after the winners have paid their tuition. The money can then be used to buy books, a computer or to set up housekeeping - expenses that are often overlooked by traditional scholarships.
This year's Randy Daniels Scholars:
Nicole Morin - Loudon - Suffered a traumatic brain injury and parents divorce, fought back and volunteered her time to others to show there is life after brain injury.
Sara Landry - Concord - Had cancer and is in need financially. She wants to help save people and contribute to society. She'd like to give back to others as they did for her when she had cancer.
Murphy J. Rainville - Concord - Has a learning disability but didn't let that stop him. He worked hard in school, took Peer-to-Peer course to help him further understand how to help others in need. He Captained the Hockey and Baseball teams as a well liked team leader. Plans to be a Special Education teacher to help others.
Don Miner Scholars:
Kaleena Guzman - Concord - Plans to major in criminal justice to help those who need to get their life on track. She has worked extremely hard to overcome the stigma of a learning disability and stay positive. Kaleena will be the first in her family to receive a high school diploma and continue on to college. She helps out her family by working 15-20 hours a week to by clothes, gas and other family expenses.
Molly Kirsch - Loudon

Each scholarship recipient is invited to join the club at a breakfast meeting. The club's thanks to Kathleen Daniels whose help is invaluable in this scholarship selection process and keeps Randy's legacy alive for all of us.
